How do you acclimatise to the altitude prior to getting to Machu Picchu?
Everyone is different. Some may experience nauseousness and have not much of an appetite for 24 hours. The key, is to arrive at Cusco at least a couple of days before hand and explore the surrounds this will help you acclimatise to the altitude. During this time we recommend drinking 1.5L of water per day, eating low-fat meals and drink coca tea during the day. Warning: If you drink it at night, you’ll be awake for hours!
Do I need to get any vaccinations prior to my trip?
You will need to book into the doctor for this trip, as you are going to need to get the Yellow Fever vaccination as well as making sure all your HEP boosters are up to date.
Best way to visit Machu Picchu without doing the trail?
Unfortunately sometimes we are pressed for time, not fit enough, carrying injuries etc. so some cannot partake in this amazing trek. Luckily there is a train that can take you to Machu Picchu so you can still this amazing site while you are travelling through Peru.
Do I need to do training before the trek?
If you don’t feel like being left behind (not that any tour company would) We advise you to undertake some training a couple of months out prior to leaving for your trek. Our trekking expert recommends that in your last month of training you aim to walk 10-20km a day. Gradient training is also highly recommend, so grab your training partner and hit the hills for some weekend adventures.
What kind of food can I expect on the trek?
The food varies from trek to trek, but expect your favourite carbs to be on the menu. You are going to need these for energy while conquering the Inca Trail. Think Stews, pasta, potatoes and even pancakes in the morning. Your guides will go the extra mile to ensure everyone is satisfied.
How much does a permit cost for the Inca Trail?
The permits are included into the overall cost of the tours/treks booked in. They’re not available to be purchased individually as one can not trek the INCA trail independently – which means booking and organising this trek is stress free! You just did to worry about getting to Machu Picchu.

Luck is on your side when you are trekking with G Adventures, they make sure there is a porter available to carry your overnight pack. All you require to carry is your day pack that will contain water, scroggin and clothing. However if you are a pro-hiker and want to challenge yourself you are allowed to carry your own gear.
Can you hire hiking equipment?
Don’t stress about bringing all your equipment from home. G Adventures allows you to hire their very own equipment from sleeping bag to air mattresses and hiking poles.

The best time to do the trek is between June and September as this is the dry season, Mother Nature has a very low chance of turning the trek into a mud pit.
